Optus and SBS have announced a landmark deal to bring the English Premier League back to free-to-air television for the first time in 12 years.

In exchange Optus will receive matches from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with SBS retaining the rights to 25 of the 64 matches including all Australian matches and the opening match of the Cup. SBS will also retain the rights to the quarter-final, semi final and the final.

SBS will reportedly broadcast one weekly EPL match live and in HD, with the ability to replay the match with in 3 days of its original broadcast.

SBS will screen the early Saturday Night game which usually is on between 9:30-11:30pm depending on daylight savings.
