As the MLB offseason enters its second week, Arizona Diamondbacks’ star pitcher, Zac Gallen, is already eagerly anticipating the start of spring training. While most baseball players utilize the offseason for rest and relaxation, Gallen recently took part in the Pro-Am at Schwab Cup alongside his teammate, Merrill Kelly.
After a round of golf, Gallen opened up about his outlook for the upcoming months and expressed his excitement about returning to the baseball diamond. Although he values spending time with family and getting back into a regular routine, Gallen’s anticipation for spring training, just a few months away, is palpable.
Challenges in Gallen’s 2023 Season
While 2023 may not have been Zac Gallen’s best year on the mound, it still earned him recognition as he was voted a CY Young finalist. His season had its ups and downs, culminating in a near-masterclass performance in Game 5 of the World Series. During this game, Gallen held the Texas Rangers hitless through five innings, but due to a lack of offensive support, he ended up with a loss as he left the game in the 7th inning with his team trailing 1-0.
The Diamondbacks’ postseason journey came to an end in this game, with a final score of 5-0 in favor of the Rangers. This loss officially eliminated the Diamondbacks, putting an end to their underdog run a few wins short of their ultimate goal.
Spring Training on the Horizon
Fortunately for Gallen, the wait to return to the mound will not be long. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report around the second week of February, bringing a ray of hope and excitement for fans and players alike.
Zac Gallen’s passion for the game of baseball is evident as he eagerly anticipates the upcoming spring training season. Despite the challenges he faced in 2023, including a near-no-hitter in the World Series, Gallen remains dedicated to his craft and is determined to bring success to the Diamondbacks in the future.
